National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.Today, we honor the memory of the 14 women who lost their lives in the tragic events at École Polytechnique in Montreal on December 6th, 1989. This day is a reminder of the reality of gender-based violence and the urgent need for change.
The lives lost on that day were taken because they were women pursuing their dreams, As we remember their names and stories, let us commit to action. Together, we must challenge the system and attitudes that allow violence against women to persist.
According to Statistics Canada, a woman or girl is killed every 2.5 days in this country. This is unacceptable. We can—and must—do better. Let this day inspire us to create a society where safety, respect, and equality are the norm for all.If you or someone you know needs support, the IRSSS Emergency Crisis Line is available 24/7 at 1-800-721-0066.Let’s work together to honor the lives lost and take action against gender-based violence.
