Celebrating Pride: A Message of Love, Acceptance, and Unity

I hope everyone had fun during the pride month! As your Pride Students Representative, I am happy and proud (and maybe doing a little happy dance) as we celebrate this special month of June together with our members.

Elaborating more on Pride Month, it is celebrated every June, honoring the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their fight for equal rights, stemming from the 1969 Stonewall Riots. It promotes visibility, acceptance, and awareness, celebrating diversity and commemorating the history and ongoing struggles of LGBTQ+ individuals through parades, events, and educational activities.

Now coming to us and our campus of Caledonia, we have our Pride club, affectionately started in 2022, and we have grown into a family tighter than a pair of skinny jeans on a hot day!

This year we had several Pride events that were important, and do we know how to make them fun! Remember our "Tie-Dye" event where everyone turned into rainbows of their own colors? Or our "Queer Cinema Nights" where we learned that yes, there are movies where the gay character doesn't die at the end? These events aren't just a blast; they're our way of saying, "We're here, we're queer, and we've got great taste in movies!".

I am thrilled to highlight our students' union team (my famjam), who turned my dream project, our "Power and Empower (Shakti)" campaign, into reality. It's like a superhero training program, but instead of capes, we wear rainbow flags!

Through our Allyship Program (now with fewer awkward silences), Pride and Wellness Fair (where smiles are the best accessory), Safe Space Circles (cozier than your grandma's living room), and Sexual Health Awareness initiatives (because love shouldn't be complicated), we're making our campus more inclusive than a group hug.

Remember, your uniqueness is your superpower. Whether you sparkle like a disco ball or shine quietly like a star, you're amazing just as you are. Let's keep standing tall, supporting each other, and spreading love like it's free Wi-Fi.
